Turning of the Tide (Opinion) November 23, 2020 By David Josephy When we look back at 2020, we will see not only the tragedy and turmoil of the coronavirus pandemic, but also the turning of the tide against the wave of reactionary right-wing politics that started with the “Brexit” vote of 2016. The evidence has poured in from around the world. In the U.K., opinion polls show that support for Boris Johnson’s Conservatives has plummeted; Keir Starmer’s Labour Party now leads. In Bolivia, and now also in Peru, right-wing coups have been reversed by the people, marching in the streets and voting at the ballot box. Chile has … Read More

Message about Covid-19 from Your Guelph NDP April 15, 2020 Friends, during difficult times, Canadians always come together to work for the common good. At the federal level, Jagmeet Singh has been calling on the government to make sure no one falls through the cracks. We’ve been calling for direct assistance and wage replacement for working class families, protections for workers and tenants, an extension on tax filing and CRA deadlines, and support and supplies for Indigenous communities. Provincially, Andrea Horwath has been pushing the government to immediately send $2000 to households facing economic hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic, increase the child benefit for households affected, spend $1 billion in surge funding for Ontario hospitals, and … Read More
Canadian families need the government to come through for them April 15, 2020 As the spread of COVID-19 continues, people are concerned not only about their health, but also about their ability to keep paying the bills and putting food on the table. Health experts and government officials are encouraging people to stay home and self-isolate and people want to make the right choices to keep their communities and families safe. Many of these people are in the service industry or front lines workers. It is in all of our best interest to make sure that they have the support they need from the government to be able to self-isolate if needed. For … Read More
Demand Emergency Income Now! April 15, 2020 Please sign the petition Ontarians need money to pay the bills and get by now – not weeks or months from now. Support $2,000 Emergency Income now.
